Notes
Physical and Chemical Changes Chemical Change** A change in which the identity change •Cannot be reversed •Color Change •Bubbles •New smells •Light •Smoke Physical Change** A change in which identity always remains the same •Mostly reversible •Size changes •Shape changes
Solids, Liquids and Gases Definite- Does not change State of Matter**- Ways that matter can be found – solid, liquid, or gas The shape of a solid does not change The volume of a solid does not change. Liquid** No definite Shape Definite Volume Some particle motion Gas** No definite Shape No definite Volume Lots of particle movement
When you increase temperature, the particles move more and spread out more.
Phase Changes As you go from a solid to liquid to gas, temperature, particle motion, and energy increases.Phase changes happen because the amount of energy in a state of matter increases or decreases. Melting** Freezing** Deposition** Sublimation** Condensation** Boiling/Evaporation**
What's the matter with water? When particle motion increases, the particles spread out and take up more space. This means that the volume of the particles increase.
